What's on Your Christmas Playlist?

There's only a short time left to enjoy the songs of the season. Which tunes could you listen to over and over again? Which ones can you do without?

Whether it's the a capella rendition of "Silent Night" sung by the Salvation Army bell ringer or "Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer" playing over and over again on the local radio station -- yes Virginia radio does still exist -- holiday music is in the air these days.

And, whether you love 'em or hate 'em, these yuletide tunes are here to stay...at least until December 26 rolls around. In an effort to keep you feeling merry and bright, we asked the Emmaus Patch Facebook elves to help us to build a playlist to get you through that car ride to the in-laws.

While a clear favorite Christmas ditty didn't emerge from the Facebook conversation, there were some patterns among those songs that were disliked. Bruce Springsteen's rendition of "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" got several thumbs down, as did a song called "The Christmas Shoes."

And, it seems that there is some heavy national backing of the latter opinion, as Today Entertainment last December posted an article titled "Is 'Christmas Shoes' the worst holiday song ever?" Spoiler alert: the writer of this article surely thinks so.

Now, without further ado, here's what our Facebook friends had to say about their favorite -- and least favorite -- holiday songs:

Jennifer Trumbore: It's hard to pick a true favorite, but Josh Groban's "Oh Holy Night" makes me get goosebumps every time I hear it! I also love "Gabriel's Message" by Sting, and "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" by The Barenaked Ladies and Sarah McLaughlin. The one I *cannot stand* is "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" by Bruce Springsteen.

Jennifer Liston Rodgers: Little Drummer Boy is my favorite and the one I cringe when I hear is Christmas Shoes - the one where the boy is buying his mother some shoes because she wants to look nice in heaven...it's just too sappy!

Bryan Corlett: "Mele Kalikimaka" love this hawaiian christmas song. makes me think of national lampoons christmas vacation...as for holiday song that makes me cringe when i hear it has to be anything sung by mariah carey

Kay Hopko: Holy Night

Cheshire Zientara: I hate that Christmas Shoes song too!

Tom Schilling: the waitresses or something like that...... it is just a horrible song and the radio stations play it all the time. makes me turn the station every time. just really stinks when you change the station and the next station is playing it too. but there are so many good ones, it is really hard to pick from them all.

Tamarya Heminitz: I'm dreaming of a white christmas is enough to make anyone cringe after this past week.

Tamarya Heminitz: Or let it snow lol

Vickie Larosh Gruver: I'll be home for Christmas

Wr Vinovskis: Best "winter holiday" song: Andy Williams singing "The Christmas Song" (Chestnuts Roasting on an open fire.) That is simply the best rendition of that song. Best "Christmas" song: The Sussex Carol. There just isn't a 'bad' rendition of that song.

Wr Vinovskis: I agree with the comment above. Worst song: Bruce Springsteen's "Santa Claus is Coming to Town."

Amy Wieboldt McCrae: Bing's White Christmas and Dominic the Donkey (cringe).
