the margin could be as close as 167 votes with Simmons ahead. Looks like it may be less.

ReplyIf Mr. Simmons has thoroughly studied the district and arrived at the conclusion that Deely cannot win than why ask for a concession? Respectfully allow the votes to be counted and respect democracy. It's not like the legislature is going to be in session tomorrow. We don't have hanging chads like Florida 2000.

So how did the name Justin Simmons get on the bill if he was not in agreement? By the way, really enjoying the guessing game on my identity. In the past 5 days I have been called Kevin Deely, Mark and Sue Arnold. Sorry folks you all missed the target. I doubt any of you have ever met me but please keep it going.

Eric since you were there and you are obviusly not one of these Simmons supporters, I was wondering if the fact that Justin Simmons was a co-sponsor of the transvaginal ultrasound bill came up? http://www.legis.state.pa.us/CFDOCS/Legis/PN/Public/btCheck.cfm?txtType=HTM&sessYr=2011&sessInd=0&billBody=H&billTyp=B&billNbr=1077&pn=3047
That was the bill where women considering terminating a pregnancy would be forced to undergo a procedure followed up by a signature on the pictures. SImmons took his name off the bill once he saw how many were opposed but if you look at the original bill his name is there. I will never forget when his buddy Governor Corbett said women if they didn't like it could just close thier eyes.

Thanks for clarifying the plan. Also, take a look at what your GOP did to public pensions in 2001 if you think anybody else is to blame.

Thanks for calling me Deely. I have no wish to run for any office with Grover Norquist backside kissers like yourself controlling the GOP. Show me 1 time where I mentioned pensions in this conversation and then tell me what Simmons/Corbett has done or proposed to solve that issue. Looks like a lot of talk to me.

ReplyAnd at the beginning of this year 17 more teachers had to go http://easton.patch.com/articles/easton-area-school-board-cuts-17-middle-school-teachers-assistant-principal-c2f2969d
So that is an additional 66 teachers axed, local property taxes raised, other postions let go following a pay freeze and especially following the election of Simmons/Corbett. -

ReplyYes and a lot of those cuts were restored although teachers were laid off http://articles.mcall.com/2010-05-27/news/all-mc-easton-budget.7286433may27_1_middle-school-sports-custodial-positions-extracurricular-cuts
Facing mounting pressure from the public, the Easton Area School District administration backtracked on its proposal to cut nearly five dozen extracurricular clubs and activities next school year. Officials also restored two Advanced Placement teaching positions at the high school and cut three additional custodial positions. They also reiterated plans to restore most middle school sports
Now compare that to what happened under Corbett/Simmons. And keep in mind this was after a salary freeeze:
In all, the district will cut 49 teachers, a security guard, 31 full-time support positions and 21 part-time support positions. http://articles.mcall.com/2012-05-22/news/mc-easton-school-teacher-cuts-20120522_1_teachers-union-special-education-teachers-middle-school-teachers. The $133.4 million budget uses $1.5 million from the district's assigned reserves and raises taxes 2.2 percent. The average taxpayer with a home assessed at $75,000 will pay $88 more. -

Careless why wasn't Easton having that problem before the state cuts? Do you see the cuts and the huge budget problems as having nothing to do with each other? Eastis is far from the only district to go through those problems. Allentown, Reading, Harrisburg etc. I remember the Easton cotract providing a jump. They were also one of the lower paying districts before that jump. Maybe it was too big. the salary freeze and other concession followed soon after.
