On the article Last Chance to Win Prizes in Halloween Photo Contest
Trish

ReplyI am confused, offended and upset that the "Halliween photo" contest ends on Oct 11 considering that Halloween is not until 10/31. My children (and am sure many others) do not observe Halloween until the actual date.

Ron, Do you know if flags can be dropped off at the VFW any time while they are open or do they have a special event for flag disposal? I heard that the Boy Scouts also have a disposal event, but I never know when until it is too late. I have several that I've been holding onto until they could be disposed of properly. Thank you!

ReplyNormally I leave spiders alone, unless they are large & in my house. Last year, I found a wolf spider in my house and attempted to kill it. Well, I learned my lesson. When I went to "smoosh it," it's babies that were on it's back (unbeknownst to me) & they scattered in a million directions. Needless to say, I now have them everywhere and have finally learned to accepted them.

I agree with Ronald & Ami. In the Summer 2011 township newsletter it mentioned converting large yards and public spaces from mown grass to meadows as a way to help protect our water supply.

On the article Hit-and-Run Driver Damages Lower Mac Barn

ReplyI drive through this intersection 3 times a week. This is the 3rd time this barn has been hit in the past few months (that I know of). I agree that it was completely wrong for this driver to leave the scene, however, the majority of the damage has been there since the first time it was hit a few months ago and I don't think it is right to blame him for it.

On the article Pennsylvania Fracking: Are Gas Companies Friend or Foe?
Trish

ReplyFor over 60 years my family has owned a vacation retreat a couple of miles from Hills Creek and we've seen first hand what the gas drilling activity has done to the area. While I do not necessarily agree with fracking, I do want to reassure you of one thing, those bright lights and noise from the drilling & seismic testing will most likely be gone within a year, once they finish the drilling process. It will take a little longer for the truck traffic, but once the rig is completed, the pipes laid, & the well is up and running, it will once again be peaceful and quiet. On the downside, we will be left with the actual wells to look at on the horizon, but at least they are quiet and the wildlife does adapt. We will have to wait and see what the future environmental impact will be. :(

ReplyPlease do not eliminate or reduce the funding for Emmaus Library or the fire department. My family uses the Emmaus library every week. For some, it is their only access to use computers. There are other changes throughout the township that can be made to find the funds.

What will happen with the existing Weis building? Will it become an empty eyesore for years to come (like the old Ames in Trexlertown) until they decide to knock it down for more apartments? The 300 apartments they already plan on equals 300 families who will not be paying taxes but will attend the already overcrowded schools causing another increase in our taxes.
