On the article Emmaus Students Ask Board to Keep Controversial Books

ReplyYeah, we're saying it's not recommended for the average 9th grade kid. I think that's about right. If you want your 9th grader to read it, you can recommend it to him/her. That's your choice.

ReplyNo one is RESTRICTING what they read or telling them NOT to read. Some would just prefer these books not be put on a RECOMMENDED reading list. There IS a difference.

ReplyNothing is stopping these kids from checking the books out of the library whether or not they're on a suggested reading list.

On the article How Did ‘Porn’ Get on Emmaus Summer Reading List?
Sue Adams

ReplyI don't think anyone wants to "ban" these books. It is being suggested that these books with explicit sexual passages be removed from the summer reading list. I have to admit that I'm surprised that books with that sort of content would be offered for a 9th grade reading list - maybe 12th or 11th grades would be more acceptable. I actually let my 4th grader pick up a book from the 9th grade reading list (not one in the article) because I thought that since it was on the table, it would be a safe, good read. I guess I need to be more careful in the future. Thanks for the eye opener!

On the article Poll: Abolish East Penn's Early Wednesdays?

ReplySo, what is the REAL reason behind the short Wednesdays? Are there any other school disctricts in the area that do this? My kids are cyber schooled and home schooled so it doesn't effect me, but it seems it would be very difficult for working parents!

ReplyJust a note, it is rated R! Last year I decided it would be fun to watch a summer movie together as a family and chose "Vacation" because I remember it being sooo funny. However, I had forgotten about the language, nudity and sexual references. It really was not an appropriate film to watch with my bunch - then 12, 8 and 5 years old!

On the article Letter to 'Road Warrior' Prompts New Traffic Lights

ReplyGood for Upper Milford! Emmaus needs to take a look at the light at Chestnut and Cedar Crest. It is very difficult and dangerous when coming out of the Weis Market and wanting to make a left at the traffic light onto Chestnut Street. The traffic coming from Cedar Crest is always very heavy and I have actually had to wait through one whole traffic light and into the next before being able to turn safely. And the guy behind me was not very happy. He actually tried to go around me on my right and make the left turn with me. So when I say safely - I'm using the term pretty loosely. I believe this has been a problem area for quite sometime and I would highly encourage Emmaus to take a look into having a light installed with turning arrows at this intersection.

ReplyIf the Township would pass that law, they'd have to fine themselves. The grass/weeds at the property on the corner of Shimerville and Mill Roads is pretty high! I believe they still own that piece of land.
