  • On the article Mayor's Race: Reynolds Gets Big Endorsements

Callahan and Reynolds deserve each other as both are of low character. No surprise that Callahan endorsed Reynolds as Reynolds sucks constantly to the mayor at City Council meetings. Reynolds is brash and arrogant and holds grudges just like Callahan.

It is a bit of a stretch to call the Shoppes at the Sands Upscale shops---they are low end outlets.

Now the Mayor knows how his constituents feel when he makes all his bad decisions in City Hall and the voice of the citizens are ignored. Reminiscent of Council meetings in Bethlehem where things are done despite the passionate pleas of the community.

But at least they used some of the money to gamble at the casino here in town that Linny backed thru her buddy Casino Johnny Callahan during the tough debates that took place in town when most of the citizens in the community stood up against it.

Starters is a casualty of the Sands and its multiple restaurants/bars where the corporate behemoth ultimately crowded out the first investment on the steel site which was made by a successful independent local businessman. This is reminiscent of the national chain stores putting the mom and pop stores out of business in the downtowns across America.

There will be more casualties from this behemoth in our town. Hopefully some day they become the casualty of excessive gambling overbuilding in NJ/NY.

Too bad our current Mayor hasn't focused some attention to Main Street. He is too busy courting the Sands. Very appropriate for Gordy Mowrer to be honored as "Main Street Mayor" and Callahan will some day be honored as "Casino Mayor"

What makes you think I am a chauvanist and bigoted---versus someone offerring a subtle tongue in cheek humor. The students at Lehigh today drink substantially more than the days when kegs were on tap. Lehigh may have had the reputation of a good party school but at least it had a character and its engineering school reputation was impeccable with its students highly sought by the business community. Today the engineering school reputation is average at best, the kids drink every night instead of just at Saturday night band parties. They have more breaks and less classes and tons of gut courses and majors. Finally, their President is very weak, grossly overpaid and presides over a bastion of liberal spewing professors. Lehigh is trying to be just another eastern liberal arts school (Ivy wannabe) without any defining character to distinguish itself.

Callahan will be forever remembered as the Mayor that brought casino gambling and all of its ills to our beloved community. Now it looks like the Sands will be moving on at about the same time as he leaves office and look for Johnny Casino to end up with a cushy job somewhere working for Sheldon.

The casino complex will make a nice discount store mall.

Wonderful conclusion to a tremendous waste of time and money. I knew Lehigh made a mistake when it admitted women!!

I remember Lehigh when it was a bastion of conservatism and well respected by both the business community and academia. When grades were earned and when you had to go to Saturday morning classes before the football game. Lehigh has since become another mamby bamby liberal arts based eastern school where grades are handed out like gifts and kids barely go to class 3 days a week and drink from Thursday to Sunday night.

The casino will make a nice convention floor after it shuts down. Also, New Jersey will build casinos in Meadowlands which will also put the nail in the Bethlehem coffin.
