On the article Kids Suspended for Using 'Finger' Guns: What do you Think?
Lisa Amey

ReplyI think in this case, this situation should have been used as a teachable moment for these six year olds, who had no ill intent and there was no danger. If the school wants to send a message about what is acceptable and not acceptable behavior, and is going to say kids should not do this, (as extreme as this seems to me) as with any other expectation they should at least set the guidelines first, educate the kids, and go from there.

On the article Should Depressed People Have Kids?

I think Sarah Silverman is abrasive and obnoxious, but it's still her choice whether she wants to have kids or not, depressed or not. Think of all the other people out there-- drug addicts, felons, pedophiles, none of whom are prohibited from becoming a parent. Mental illnesses such as depression are mild in comparison.

On the article Drinking While Pregnant: Would you Risk It?
Lisa Amey
7:49 pm on Sunday, January 6, 2013
ReplyBefore I knew I was pregnant with my first child, I had gone out with a bunch of friends and had a few drinks. Then when I knew, I was terrified I had done something awful during the crucial early development of my baby because of that! Of course, my OB said not to sweat it all. I was cautious thereafter, and developed gestational diabetes, so drinking at that point was out of the question in my case. But I surely feel it is okay if a healthy pregnant mom does it within reason.

ReplyI am a parent of a first grader and a fourth grader. Upon reading of this horrific tragedy, I immediately started weeping and had an almost uncontrollable urge to hug my kids. I still want to cry when I think about it.

On the article CEO Uses Social Media to Pick Baby Name: What do you Think?
Lisa Amey

ReplyPersonally, I would never use this avenue to choose a baby name. In fact, I think it's special to keep a list of potential names quiet until a baby is actually born. But with that said, if someone else wants to do that, I see no harm in it, although it's a bit quirky.

On the article Is 13 Too Young to Babysit?

ReplyThis is a sad story, and obviously a misjudgement on the mom's part. The maturity of the child and the number/ages of those being watched always need to be considered.
I agree that younger ones may not cooperate with an oldest sibling babysitter, as opposed to someone outside the family.I wonder why the mom didn't bring her kids to church with her? Child care is usually provided.

ReplyNow that my kids are older, they sometimes ask me, "Can I stay in the car while you go in to ____ (some public place)?" And I always think of some excuse why they can't....it's too scary for me to think about it.

On the article Do You Take Your Kids Black Friday Shopping?

ReplyI find that shopping without kids in general is easier and faster. So trying to shop with kids with the added Black Friday stresses at this time is out of the question. I have never shopped on Black Friday anyway; I much prefer to do the Cyber Monday Sales!

On the article Which Doctor Would you Choose?

ReplyLuckily, we use a pediatric office that has multiple doctors. I feel that they all have their strengths. Some are old school, and some have less experience. I like that I can be flexible with who I choose to see within the same practice.

I did actually click on the link to read the original blog post and skimmed most of the comments; there are WAY too many to read all of them thoroughly. It baffles me that this went viral and actually reached so many other countries. I get her point about helicopter moms and it certainly has me checking myself in certain situations with my kids. But this blog content getting that much attention is unbelievable.
