Replyimho The tax Code should be changed and NO organization should be exempt from income tax, not schools, churches, charities, etc. No deductions should be allowed for contributions either. It takes away all this administrative nonsense, levels the playing field and removes tax reduction as a motivation for giving. The IRC has become the Internal Refund Code, revenue is a by-product.

AIB,
I'm not endorsing the name calling. If my posts give that impression, then let me make it clear: I only intend to observe that the Tea Partiers invite this abuse and seem to relish it. It is an interesting way of baiting detractors.
However two wrongs don't make a right. Foul names are not acceptable. jive or no jive :;-)

AIB,
I know how the phrase is used as are the Tea-Partiers who provoke this name by dressing as they do. I'm saying that they invite it, so they can make the type of p/a attacks that we see above.

Interesting passive/aggressive behavior here.
Tea Party members wear tea bags on their hats and clothes, attend rallies like this, get photographed like this. Yet when someone call them tea-baggers, it's turned into a "homophobic slur". Gimme a break!
They invite this appellation by the ridiculous attention-grabbing costumes and staged protests. Ridiculous immature behavior, ridiculous costumes, ridiculous agenda. Who could ever take these folks seriously, really?

Rudolph.
I used all city to give the diesel an advantage. Using your prices for fuel and all highway mileage, the savings drops to $290/year in favor of the diesel. I did not choose anything but the lowest priced Passat models with each engine, if Veedub chooses to pack the diesel, then it's gouging the buyer. The Jetta has a $6,000+ difference in price between engines as well - again lowest priced model in each category.
But to even it out, say we add $3,000 or more in options to the gas model and nothing to the base diesel, that still means that it takes over ten years ($3,000 difference divided by $290 / year) to pay back. I'm sorry but the numbers just don't support buying the diesel. Same is true with hybrids.
People buy the more fuel-efficient models to feel good about their carbon footprints, not to save money. No matter how you run the numbers, a more expensive diesel or hybrid does not pay back the price difference in savings. Not at current price levels. I've done this plenty of times and the numbers always favor regular gasoline burners.

Ruolph,
I respectfully disagree, I just re-ran the numbers. Regular = $3.32 Diesel = $3.99 (gasbuddy.com Lansdale PA). VW Passat regular TMV = $18,115 (22mpg city), Passat TDI $24,307 (31mpg city) (edmunds, com) - That's a $6,192 price difference !!! At an average 15,000 miles a year, the diesel fuel costs $333/yr less. It will take over 18 years to make up that difference. I repeat, the fuel savings does not add up for the average driver when you take the price difference into account.

The problem with hybrids and diesels here in America is that the premium pricing more than eats up the fuel savings. I once calculated that I'd have to own a VW diesel about 30 years to break even with the fuel savings - and that was at far higher prices than we have now. You may feel good about saving fule if you've bought one of these, but you are not saving money :-(

No Kim,
Look into passive aggressive behavior, there's a big difference - you need to understand the behavior patterns.
In other words, you attack from ignorance.
