How so? There are numerous houses in that block and you can't tell who lives in a particular house by looking at a map.

Hi Amanda. I already stated that I meant no offense by using the photo that was originally chosen, so there's no need to cast aspersions. And I didn't have to remove it. I did so out of sensitivity to the concerns raised in the earlier comments. If you knew me, you would know that I'm very much an animal lover. The stories I publish about pets in need (including pit bulls) are proof of that. As for using a photo of the actual dog involved in a particular incident, that's a good idea, but it's not a practical one given the time constraints journalists work under. The use of file photos is a common, accepted practice among media outlets, and it is one I will continue to use.

Articles move off the homepage as new articles are posted...generally within 24 hours. This is the norm for most news websites. To see a list of the articles in reverse chronological order, click on "News" in the bar underneath the masthead and page back, or you can always enter terms in the search box to find older articles. There are thousands of articles archived on the site at this point.

ReplyThe photo that originally accompanied this story was labeled "FILE PHOTO" and not identified as a photo of a pit bull. A file photo is intended to represent a generalization; in this case, "any dog," since the police report didn't indicate the breed of dog involved in the alleged incident. However, I realize that pit bulls are a breed some people feel has been unfairly characterized as vicious, and out of sensitivity to those concerns I have replaced the original image with a different one.

@Bert - You can blame me for the labeling of the piece. That's ultimately my responsibility, and I agree that it probably could have been done differently. I do try to clearly label opinion pieces as such and perhaps I could have done a better job.

My understanding of consumer science in the context of Saucon Valley School District is that it's the equivalent of what most people my age and older called 'home economics.' It doesn't have anything to do with religion as far as I'm aware.

I was at the Upper Saucon Township Board of Supervisors meeting Monday, and the projected opening date for the trail's extension is now mid-late June. So, pretty soon.

Well, obviously if you are determined enough you can unearth details that we don't publish in stories—details that are sometimes excluded to protect people's privacy. You are clearly insinuating that I'm not doing a very good job of that, but I have to balance privacy with transparency. And that is not necessarily an easy thing to do.
