An economic consulting group has ranked Lehigh County number seven on a top 10 list of communities recommended for investment.
Lehigh County is ranked seventh in a top ten list of communities recommended for investment by a Pittsburgh economic consulting group, according to a WFMZ report. The Fourth Economy Community Index examines both statistical and qualitative factors at the county level in five areas: Investment, Talent, Sustainability, Place, and Diversity. The consultants say these five areas serve as a foundation for future economic success. Lehigh County election officials say there are too many additional ballots left to count to call the hotly contested race for the 131st district
Election night left state Rep. Justin Simmons looking like a winner but county officials today say the outcome of the 131st House race is not yet certain. Hundreds of ballots are still to be counted. It's expected to take weeks to finalize the outcome. "I'd say there are between 750 and 1,000 ballots left to count," said Lehigh County election official Tim Benyo. A preliminary tally without those ballots shows Simmons with a 562-vote lead. "It's definitely too tight to call this race [for the 131st district] yet," Benyo told Patch on Wednesday morning. Ballots still to be counted include: Simmons, 26, of Upper Saucon Township, won the 131st seat two years ago. He graduated from St. Joseph's University in 2008 with a bachelor's degree in …

According to the calendar, there are six more weeks of autumn, but somebody apparently forgot to tell Mother Nature. November has barely begun and the Lehigh Valley is already under a winter weather advisory. On Wednesday morning National Weather Service predicted snow will start after 1 p.m. with a daytime snow accumulation of two to four inches possible. It will be breezy with a north wind 14 to 22 mph with gusts as high as 37 mph. Parkland schools dismissed early Wednesday. According to the National Weather Service, snow and sleet will start before 10 p.m. Wednesday followed by rain and sleet with a low temperature around 32. New snow and sleet accumulation of 1 to 2 inches is possible. With the snow and wind predicted there may be …
The Lehigh Valley is a great predictor of how Pennsylvania will vote in presidential elections.
Muhlenberg College professor and pollster Christopher Borick won’t predict who is going to win Tuesday's presidential election. And he won’t say who will take Pennsylvania. But he will say this: “I’m very confident that who ever wins the Valley will win Pennsylvania.” The Lehigh Valley, with its cities, suburbs and rural areas, has become a bellwether for Pennsylvania politics. In 2008, both Northampton and Lehigh counties went for Barack Obama, just like the state. The Lehigh Valley went for Democrats John Kerry in 2004 and Al Gore in 2000, as did Pennsylvania as whole. “Pennsylvania hasn’t been a very good predictor of elections,” said Borick, director of the Muhlenberg College Institute of Public Opinion. But “the Lehigh Valley as a …

Let me correct you. Justin Simmons said he would run for two terms because he is a believer in term limits. He NEVER said anything about believing in "one termers." Also, do you think only teachers are for education? Frankly, while I hope that most are for the education of the students, their issues in their strikes have been, to the best of my recollection, related to their pay and pensions. …   more ›
