President of Lehigh Valley Tea Party says organization will still tackle issues despite presidential election outcome.
The presidential election is over and despite the outcome, the president of the Lehigh Valley Tea Party said her organization will "keep on keeping on." For the past two Saturdays, Tea Party members were out rallying the troops in Allentown and Bethlehem to get people out to vote. Barb Walters, the chairwoman of the 800-member Lehigh Valley Tea Party, said she was disappointed by the turnout at the polls, despite criticism and concerns that the country wasn't improving in the past four years under President Barack Obama's tenure. "I was surprised at the numbers. They were down for the country," she said. "It was really shocking, coming from both sides." The Tea Party movement gained national recognition during the 2010 midterms in terms of…

President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden were re-elected Tuesday night, defeating Republican challenger Mitt Romney and his vice presidential running mate, U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan. NBC News called the presidential election for Obama around 11:15 EST. The president sent a message on Twitter at 10:14 saying simply, "This happened because of you. Thank you." The Obama campaign won the most expensive presidential race ever, with both parties raising about $2.6 billion. The race was filled with negative campaigning on both sides, from Obama attacking Romney’s business experience with Bain Capital to Romney lambasting Obama’s handling of the economy. The race tightened during the final months of the campaign, with gaffes and surges from …

Vice President Joe Biden meets Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan in debate tonight. Patch asked voters 'How will Biden do?' when his wife came campaigning Monday in Wescosville.
The stakes are high tonight as Pennsylvania native Joe Biden meets Congressman Paul Ryan in their only debate. When Jill Biden made a campaign stop at the Pennsylvania State Education Association office in Wescosville Monday, Patch took the opportunity to ask Obama-Biden supporters how they think Joe Biden will do, given Obama's lackluster performance last week in the first presidential debate and Biden's propensity for gaffes. Here's what they had to say: * Muhlenberg College student Hannah Miller: “Both candidates have the potential to be offensive to somebody as well as to sway them. “Both are dynamic. It should be interesting.” * Linda Mancinelli of Allentown, whose daughter, Alissa Jebitsch, is a volunteer for the Obama campaign. …

Jill Biden, wife of Vice President Joe Biden, makes a campaign stop in Wescosville Monday to drum up support for the Obama-Biden ticket in the final weeks of the campaign.
Laura J. Marie has been so frustrated with friends and family who do not support the Obama-Biden ticket that she went online a few days ago to offer to help the president's re-election campaign. "And I was invited here today," she said as she stood among the 100 or so supporters who came to hear Jill Biden speak Monday at the Pennsylvania State Education Association office in Wescosville. "I only wish I did it sooner." Marie, who said she voted for Obama in 2008, was clearly among like-minded individuals as she waited for Jill Biden to approach the podium. Some, like Allentown resident and retired Salisbury High School art teacher Dolly Yanolko, were quite emphatic in their support for the president. “Any teacher who doesn’t vote for a …

Republican and Democratic leaders weigh in on the first presidential debate between President Barack Obama and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.
Democratic and Republican leaders in Pennsylvania acknowledged that Mitt Romney did well in his first Presidential debate against President Obama, but their assessments of who did best in Wednesday night's debate fell along party lines. Pat Poprik, chair of the Bucks County Republican Committee, said he loved Romney's aggressiveness during the debate. "He stood up for himself, I was delighted with his performance tonight and it shows the public what kind of leader he can be. I think the strongest point [Romney] made tonight was how he wants to attack the deficit and the economy. His plan is real and valid. You have to stop spending, just like a household budget. Undoubtedly, Romney won tonight. There is no doubt in my mind he won tonight…

A judge ruled today that Pennsylvania's tough new Voter ID Law should be put on hold until after the Nov. 6 general election, according to an Associated Press report. The ruling can be appealed to the state Supreme Court, which said it would expedite any further action in the case since Election Day is just five weeks away. Do you agree with the ruling? Tell us in the comments section below. Commonwealth Court Judge Robert Simpson heard two days of testimony last week, as directed by the Supreme Court, to determine whether the state has made it easy enough to get a photo ID in order to vote. Opponents say the law, and the process to get an ID, disenfranchises voters. Supporters say the law will prevent voter fraud - but that justification …

Find out what Mitt Romney supporters from around the Delaware Valley thought of the Republican presidential candidate's speech at Valley Forge Military Academy & College.
The economy, jobs, military, foreign policy and education were just some of the issues concerning former Gov. Mitt Romney's supporters who came to hear the candidate speak Friday at Valley Forge Military Academy and College. Wendy Neininger of Willistown Township, a registered Democrat, is supporting Romney. In 2008, Neininger supported Hillary Clinton, but when Clinton lost the Democratic primary to President Barack Obama, Neininger changed her allegiance. Now, she volunteers at the Romney Victory Office in West Chester. Neininger is concerned about the job market and said college students are scared about the future. “It’s not just the older workers who can’t find jobs; it’s the younger workers too,” she said. Cabrini College students …

Opponents of Pennsylvania's new voter ID will make their case Thursday before the state Supreme Court. There's no time frame for a ruling from the court - but the Nov. 6 General Election is fast approaching. The Supreme Court is composed of three Republican and three Democratic justices (a seventh judge was suspended while she faces criminal charges). A 3-3 tie would affirm the decision of the lower court, according to a Pittsburgh Post-Gazette report. Commonwealth Court upheld the law in August. Supporters say the law will prevent voter fraud and imposes the same photo ID standard required in many common circumstances. Challengers say the law is designed to disenfranchise poor and elderly voters who often support Democratic candidates. …

continued... I know we did have a delegation of sorts that met with Harrisburg "leaders". Whether all the specifics you mention were brought up I do not know (I would be very surprised if they weren't) - they came back with pretty much the attitude that I've been displaying here, note I put "leaders" in quotes. Basically, Pennsylvania is not Wisconsin: http://lvtp.org/taxesspendingdebt-articles/…   more ›
