900 Turkeys Fill This Lehigh Valley Home

Nancy and Willard Miller have been amassing all sorts of turkey collectibles for nearly three decades.

Nancy and Willard Miller of Zionsville near Emmaus in Lehigh County aren't sure, but they think they could hold the world record for owning the most turkey collectibles. They have more than 900. After Willard was successfully treated for lung cancer in 1984, his doctor told him to get out and exercise. The Millers decided to walk around flea markets. "He's my big turkey," Nancy joked. So, during their flea marketing, Nancy decided to start picking up turkeys – stuffed, ceramic, glass, knitted, wooden and metal. They have turkey magnets, salt and pepper shakers, cookie jars, jewelry, bags, statues and flags. Book Takes Upper Milford Township Back in Time

Upper Milford Historical Society members give residents a look at their roots through new book.

Upper Milford Township’s original inhabitants were the Lenni Lenape branch of the Delaware Indian Nation. Both Upper and Lower Milford townships were first part of a large area in Bucks County called Milford Township. A tobacco factory owned by Thomas Stahl stood in Powder Valley in the early 1900s. On Sept. 27, the Upper Milford Historical Society celebrated the recent release of its pictorial history book about the township. “Images of America Upper Milford Township” is filled with facts and plenty of photographs, some before the township was even organized. More than 40 people attended the event -- most of them contributors and financial investors for the book. As historical society president Rose Parry thanked each one individually, …

Pennsylvania State Police Reports

Zionsville Woman Witnesses Train Accident

“I just witnessed a car collide with a train,” a Zionsville woman posted on her Facebook page.

Diane Krier was working on her computer July 27 at approximately 2 p.m. when she heard the typical whistle of an approaching train. But that day would prove to be a bit different. Krier, her husband, Jim, daughter, Penny, and three grandchildren—Cassandra, Brandon and Dyan—live at the railroad crossing on Dillingersville Road in Zionsville.  “The whistle blew two times,” she said. “I looked out the window and saw the train—an engine with two cars—was moving very slow and coming to a stop.  When it was halfway across the road, a minivan that was going too fast didn’t stop in time and clipped the train. [The driver] had to slam on the brakes or [she] would have hit the train head-on.” At first, when she saw the train coming to a stop, Krier …

Zionsville Food Pantry Suffers Storm Damage

Distribution will continue as planned, workers say, as they begin the post-Irene clean-up.

Hurricane Irene left her mark at a local food pantry this past weekend. But, according to Linda Fosbenner, a volunteer at the Zionsville Area Food Pantry, operations will continue without interruption. “This is a manageable inconvenience,” she said. The pantry will stay on its normal schedule. A plan has already been worked out to keep things running smoothly so that people can get the food they need. Currently, the 85 families—290 people—the pantry serves each month are from Upper Milford Township, Hereford, Alburtis, Macungie and Emmaus.  Monday afternoon church members came out to help with the clean up as word got out of the damage. Fosbenner’s husband, Roger, arrived with a generator, since the power at their home had been restored. …
