In one of the most contested races in the May 21 primary, four Republican candidates are seeking their party's nomination for a Lehigh County Commissioner seat in District 5. On the Democratic side, two candidates are seeking their party's nod for the seat. The winners of the Republican and Democratic races will square off in the November general election for the four-year position. District 5 includes Salisbury Township, Emmaus, Macungie, Upper Milford, Lower Milford, Coopersburg, Upper Saucon Township and parts of Allentown. Fourteen candidates are running for Lehigh County commissioner seats in the May 21 primary, according to an unofficial voter registration list.
Two seated Emmaus Borough Councilmen are running for a Lehigh County Commissioner seat from District 5, according to an unofficial voter registration list. It is the most competitive field in the county commissioner district races. Nathan Brown and three other Republicans are running for one District 5 seat in the primary, and Wesley Barrett and another Democrat are running for one District 5 seat in its party's primary, according to the unofficial list. Emmaus Borough Councilman Wesley Barrett formally announced his candidacy for Lehigh County Commissioner, District 5, on the steps of the Wesley Works Building in Emmaus Wednesday.
Emmaus businessman Wesley Barrett, 32, has formally announced his bid for Lehigh County Commissioner, District 5. Barrett, a Democrat, is an Emmaus Borough Councilman and also owns and operates the Emmaus-based Wesley Works businesses: Wesley Works Real Estate, Wesley Works Photography Studio and Wesley Works Entertainment. He is an Emmaus High School graduate ('99) and a graduate of Quinnipiac University in Connecticut. Barrett was first elected to Emmaus Borough Council in 2005 at the age of 25. During his tenure on the council, Barrett has served on nine separate working committees, according to a prepared statement announcing his candidacy. Emmaus Councilman Wesley Barrett has not officially announced his candidacy for Lehigh County Commissioner, but the Lehigh County Democratic Party has started leaking the news about his intentions.
Emmaus Councilman Wesley Barrett was at the Emmaus Triangle at around 5 p.m. Wednesday for the announcement of a Lehigh County Democratic Party candidate in the November election. That candidate wasn’t supposed to be him. But, if you were listening carefully, you learned that Barrett’s name will be on the ballot this fall as a Democratic candidate for District 5 in the Lehigh County Commissioner’s race. That news came out during a speech by Democrat Tom Muller, the director of administration for Lehigh County, who came to Emmaus Wednesday to announce that he intends to run for Lehigh County Executive. An Emmaus Borough Councilman says the rumors that he has been approached by the Democratic Party to run for the 134th Congressional seat in the November general election are just that – rumors. Wesley Barrett, who in addition to sitting on Emmaus Borough Council runs several Emmaus-based businesses under the company name Wesley Works, Inc., says he is appreciative that he is being talked about as the potential Democratic contender in the 134th race against Rep.
