Governor promised not to raise taxes but that means everyone else has to.
In 2014, Gov. Tom Corbett will no doubt campaign that he honored his pledge not to raise taxes during his first term. So far, that’s true -- he just made it so everyone else had to raise them. The screams of anguish and gnashing of teeth you might have heard this spring were school boards throughout the Commonwealth cutting teachers and programs and raising taxes to fill budget gaps. School boards have had to face property owners complaining about another tax increase in a weak economy, plus parents and students angry over program cuts and teacher layoffs. Remember, school board members are unpaid, and this year it’s got to feel like they volunteered to be crossing guards on I-78. Mind you, Corbett inherited a boatload of tough choices …

New report puts accumulation predictions higher than original prediction.
It's time to get the snow boots out, folks. According to Lehigh Valley Weather Patrol, the Lehigh Valley can expect between 2 and 6 inches of precipitation in the form of snow and sleet over the weekend. The snow is predicted to begin overnight tonight and continue through Saturday. Weather Underground and Accuweather have similar predictions. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch, in effect until 7pm Saturday. If a storm develops, it will be the first winter weather of the season, not including the October snowstorm that left the valley blanketed in over 6 inches of snow. Dan Paschke, 25, of Coopersburg has applied to fill the vacancy left by Glenn Eckhart
Glenn Eckhart's old seat on the Lehigh County Board of Commissioners may have recently become vacant, but it won't be for long. Three applications have been received for the position, which Eckhart resigned to take his seat as county controller. Among those applications is that of state Rep. Justin Simmons staffer (R-131st) Dan Paschke. Paschke, 25, has worked with Simmons for almost two years, first as a campaign staffer and now as a community outreach specialist. Paschke currently covers Southern Lehigh and works out of Simmons' district office, something that he doesn't plan to change.
