The Pennsylvania State Police announced the launch of “See Something, Send Something,” a mobile app that lets users report suspicious activity directly to police. The focus is specifically to prevent potential terrorist attacks. But these apps open the door for all kinds of personals boundary invasions. Any smartphone user will be able to take a picture of a fellow citizen and deliver it straight to state police under the pretense that something is off – and from there, who knows how data will be used. East Penn School District Information Technology Director unveils the new East Penn mobile web site and announces the district’s Twitter feed at Monday night’s school board meeting.
It’s an unusual presentation that begins with encouragement from the presenter to pull out cell phones, iPads and other mobile devices. But, that’s exactly how East Penn Director of Information Technology Michael Mohn began the technology presentation he delivered to the East Penn Board of School Directors on Monday night. Among other things, Mohn came before the board to unveil the new East Penn School District mobile web site – hence the call for smart phones and other high-end toys, which were produced by board members and meeting attendees alike. Emmaus Patch residents who do their grocery shopping at Giant got some good news this week. Giant Food Stores announced that it has launched a mobile application for iPhone and Android devices, which are available for free at the App Store or Android Market. The mobile app syncs with a customer’s BonusCard, to provide access to his or her online account, allowing them to check current point totals for Gas Extra Rewards and A+ School Rewards in addition to viewing personalized savings offers. Once customers have built their shopping list online at www.giantfoodstores.com, they will be able to view and check off the list using their mobile device while shopping.
