LMMS, Eyer Students Shine at Mathcounts

Lower Macungie Middle School student Jereme Chien took 10th place in Lehigh Valley Mathcounts regional competition. Eyer Middle School's Sandhya Sriaam was among the top female contenders.

Jereme Chien, an eighth grade student at Lower Macungie Middle School recently took 10th place in the Lehigh Valley Mathcounts competition, held Feb. 10 at Trexler Middle School in Allentown. Sandhya Sriaam, a 7th grader at Eyer Middle School was among the top female competitors. The 29th annual  event attracted more than 200 middle school competitors from five counties.  The regional competition was organized by Lehigh Valley Chapter of the PA Society of Professional Engineers, Lower Macungie Middle School was fifth top ranking team of the 30 schools that participated. Eyer Shines in Mathcounts Competition

Eyer 8th-grader takes individual third, team places second.

Katie Xue, an 8th grader at Eyer Middle School, placed third in Saturday’s Mathcounts competition at Trexler Middle School. As a top-ranking female competitor she will receive tuition to Cedar Crest College for advanced math courses. As the student who ranked third overall, she will move on to state-level competition which will be held on March 23-24 at the Sheraton Harrisburg Hershey Hotel. The Eyer Middle School team, coached by Julie Hummell, was the second-highest ranking team. The top team, Springhouse Middle School and the four top individual students advance to the state competition in March. East Penn Students to Compete in ‘Olympics of Math’ Today

Lehigh Valley MATHCOUNTS will be held at Trexler Middle School in Allentown on Feb. 4.

Students from Eyer and Lower Macungie middle schools and St. Ann School are among the 282 students from 28 middle schools from five counties competing in the 28th annual Lehigh Valley MATHCOUNTS this morning. The event will be held at Trexler Middle School, 851 N. 15th Street, Allentown, beginning with a written test from 9:15 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. in the gym. The top 10 scoring students will face off in the Countdown Round, a "Jeopardy" style oral competition, at 1 p.m. in the school auditorium. Organized by the Lehigh Valley Chapter of the Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers for students in Lehigh, Northampton, Carbon, Luzerne and Monroe counties, the Feb. 4 event is one of 23 Pennsylvania competitions.
