Cast and crew have been putting the finishing touches on this year's Emmaus High School spring musical, 'Legally Blonde,' in preparation for opening night on Wednesday.
Special to Emmaus Patch By Chrissy Cilento, Emmaus High School Senior Emmaus High School’s Drama Department will present Legally Blonde the Musical from Wednesday through Saturday,. Since January, students have been staying after school for hours to rehearse for the production. Now that opening night is just around the corner, rehearsals have been kicked into full gear. Cast and crew members were at school after 10 p.m. on Friday and will stay late again on Monday and Tuesday to perfect the final details. Although the hours are definitely grueling, as a member of the cast, I can honestly say that working in this show doesn’t feel like a chore at all. The plot is hilarious and the music is lighthearted and fun, which makes it a blast for …

Emmaus High School rented set pieces from a production of 'Legally Blonde' in Long Island to help stage this year's spring musical.
Special to Emmaus Patch By Chrissy Cilento, Emmaus High School Senior With opening night fast approaching, rehearsals for Emmaus High School’s spring musical Legally Blonde have really been kicked into full gear. Unforeseen setbacks, like early outs for snow and bomb threats, have pushed the rehearsal schedule back a few days, but believe me, the lost time has definitely been made up. Earlier this month, we stayed at school rehearsing until about 8:30 every night for a week in order to compensate, although rehearsals don't normally run past 6 p.m. Things got especially stressful and hectic when the rented set arrived and needed to be integrated into rehearsal sessions. Two giant trucks drove to EHS from Gateway Playhouse in Long Island to…

Cast of upcoming Emmaus High School musical 'Legally Blonde' are getting quite a work out preparing for one of the larger dance numbers of the show known as 'Whipped into Shape.'
Special to Emmaus Patch By Chrissy Cilento, Emmaus High School Senior Jumping rope and singing. Two things that should never be mixed. However, in Emmaus High School's upcoming production of Legally Blonde, an entire number is devoted to doing those two things at the same time. One of the larger numbers of the show, "Whipped into Shape" is meant to be the stage version of a workout video and involves some serious jump-roping prowess as well as exhausting vocals. About a month ago when the students first learned the choreography for the number, it was a definite hurdle. Bruised and battered, they came to school the next day hobbling from class to class and massaging their calves every spare second. As rehearsals have gone on, there's been a…

Special to Emmaus Patch By Chrissy Cilento, Emmaus High School Senior After school Wednesday, I gathered in the Emmaus High School auditorium, along with about 60 other students, to audition for the spring musical "Legally Blonde". After devoting hours of our winter breaks to practicing and holding our breath for the moment when we took the stage, we auditioners can finally take a break...for now. The audition phase continued into Thursday and finishes today when the directors will narrow down their choices for the roles. After four years of doing shows at EHS, I was a little surprised at auditions this year. The process was altered, and to me the new configuration made things much less nerve-wracking for those auditioning. Instead of …

Special to Emmaus Patch By Chrissy Cilento, Emmaus High School Senior Last spring it was announced that Emmaus High School would present "Legally Blonde" as the 2013 spring musical. A couple months later that decision was taken back -- "Legally Blonde" was out of the picture and a new show was sought. For the entire summer, we lost sleep over what the musical would be. Then, around mid-September, Mrs. Kuebler and Ms. Cortez (the musical directors) announced that the show would be Rogers and Hammerstein's "Cinderella"... but, alas, just as everyone had adjusted to the switch, it was back to square one since the rights to the musical were revoked. For about two weeks EHS drama students speculated and gossiped about what the replacement show …
