Patch Readers help Knauss Relative Learn Family History

An Emmaus Patch reader asked us about his Knauss family heritage and we asked you. Here's some of what we found out.

Emmaus Patch was recently contacted by one of our readers looking to learn more about his Knauss family ancestors. About two weeks ago, we shared his request for information with our readers. Here’s some of what we found out: Linda Knauss Burkardt was the first to respond to our call for help with the following email: “I am a ninth generation descendant of Sebastian Knauss and have genealogical records of the Knauss family dating 1563 to present,” Burkardt wrote. “Very many residents of the Lehigh Valley are able to trace their lineage to Ludwig Knauss, who arrived in America from Dudelsheim, Germany in 1723; and are unaware of the connection.” Anyone who has further information about the Knauss family to share with our reader can do so in…

Knauss Homestead Occupied by Seven Generations

The Knauss family has played a key role in Emmaus’ history since 1777.

You may not know much about history, but Emmaus Patch is going to help change that. Every Friday this summer, you're invited to join Peggy Heminitz for a brief history lesson. Peg will share a local photograph and some historical fact about the place we call home. We promise there won't be any tests! This week, we're focusing on the Knauss Homestead: Heinrich Knauss built the log house behind the Superior Diner for his father, Sebastian Knauss in 1777. It remained in the Knauss family for 158 years, where seven generations of the family lived and worked.
