Internet Schemer Employs Illegal Tactics

Upper Milford woman loses $2,500 in attempt to secure job, police say.

Finding a job can be hard enough these days without a prospective "employer" picking your pocket besides. That's what happened to an Upper Milford woman who thought she was working toward getting a job, according to state police at Fogelsville. Police did not detail the scheme but said Ashley Lynn Martel, 21, of 6393 Chestnut St., lost $2,500 over the course of three weeks in trying to obtain a job via the Internet. She reported the incident Aug. 17. Police classified the incident as theft by deception.

State Police Release Upper Milford Incidents

State police at Fogelsville released the following recent incidents in Upper Milford Township: Theft from motor vehicle: Reported July 23 by Margaret and Ethan Smith of 2294 Brunner Road; Sirius Satellite Stiletto 100 and silver Magellon Maestro 3250 taken from unlocked vehicle, and GPS taken from second unlocked vehicle, police said; no value given. Theft from motor vehicle: Reported July 22 by a resident at 2451 Brunner Road; GPS, laptop and prescription glasses taken, police said; no value given. Motor vehicle accident: Reported at 2:20 p.m. July 22 at Beck Road near Route 29; vehicle driven by Rudolf Giesler, 64, of Emmaus, struck a utility pole when the driver attempted to avoid a squirrel, police said; minor injury reported; Emmaus …

State Police Release Upper Milford Incidents

The following incidents have been reported by state police at Fogelsville. They do not indicate conviction.

State police at Fogelsville recently released the following incidents that occurred in Upper Milford Township: Theft: Reported July 16 by Peter Jason of Ridgeway Drive; approximately $2,000 in reported charges to his debit card between July 5 and 16, police said. Charged: Matthew Hummel, 19, of Allentown; July 9 with harassment after crash between his vehicle and a truck operated by Clark Hauser, 67 of Emmaus on Route 29 between Indian Creek Road and Pine Street; Hummel shoved Hauser against his truck, police said.

Two Accidents Injure Three in Upper Milford

Drivers are cited in both incidents, police say.

Three people were injured in two recent motor vehicle accidents on Upper Milford Township roadways. In the most recent, Bruce E. Beltz, 23, of the Coopersburg area was hurt on July 10 when his Honda Fit struck the porch of a home along Churchview Road about 6:25 p.m., state police at Fogelsville said.  Beltz was traveling eastbound when he failed to round a turn, crossed the roadway, traveled along the embankment and struck a shed. His car continued to spin and struck the porch of a home at 4710 Churchview Road. Beltz received moderate injuries and was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest by Macungie Ambulance, police said. He was cited for driving at an unsafe speed. The following recent incidents were reported by the Emmaus Police Department: Thefts from motor vehicles: Reported July 9 in the first block of N. 2nd Street, 100 block of E. Spruce Street, 100 block of Alpine Drive and 400 block of E. Harrison Street; several unlocked vehicles broken into overnight and many items including DVD player and CDs taken, police said; no value given. State Police Release Upper Milford Incidents

The following information was released by state police. It does not indicate conviction.

The following recent incidents in Upper Milford Township were released by state police at Fogelsville: Charged: Shirley D. Harpster, 74, of Mill Hall, Clinton County; June 15 with operating a vehicle at an unsafe speed following 4:43 p.m. accident at Route 29  near St. Peter's Road; Harpster's vehicle was following that of Otto W. Harazim, 69, of Macungie; Harazim stopped but Harpster did not, striking Harazim's vehicle, police said; passenger Shirley Harazim, 67, was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest with an unspecified injury. Charged: Daniel F. Quier, 64, of Upper Milford; June 20 with scattering rubbish for placing items along the driveway of Peter Latsch, 59, of Upper Milford, police said.

The following recent incidents were released by the Emmaus Police Department: Theft: Reported June 13 at Emmaus High School, 500 Macungie Ave., police said; iPod with unspecified value. Charged: 17-year-old boy June 17 with possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest in the 1300 block of Pennsylvania Avenue after a search of his residence by Lehigh County Juvenile Probation officers and Emmaus police; smoking device found and the boy struggled with arresting officers, police said; sent to Lehigh County Juvenile Detention.
