Emmaus Garden Club: Kick Off 2013 Planting Season With Us

The Emmaus Garden Club invites the community to attend the first meeting of its 2013 programming season on Tuesday, March 5 at noon in Faith Presbyterian Church in Emmaus.

No matter what actually happens weather-wise next week, spring will be in the air in Emmaus, thanks to the Emmaus Garden Club. The Emmaus Garden Club will kick off its 2013 schedule of programming on Tuesday, March 5 with a noon meeting at Faith Presbyterian Church, featuring a guest speaker and refreshments, according to Claire McCrea, a garden club member who has handled publicity for the club for the past year. Club member Bob Stamper, who McCrea describes at a “world traveler and expert gardener” will speak about the plants of Chile. “Bob is one of the best and most experienced gardeners in our club and he takes such wonderful photos you feel like you are going on the trip with him,” McCrea says. Emmaus Garden Club Enjoys Annual Covered Dish Social

Members gathered to share covered dishes, flower stories and scholarship money.

Delicious sandwiches, salads and homemade desserts blanketed a table in the fellowship hall of Faith Presbyterian Church recently, as the members of the Emmaus Garden Club gathered for their monthly meeting and covered dish social. In addition to the tasty lunch, a member plant exchange and gently used container silent-auction were held. The Emmaus Garden Club, founded in January 1936 by Eva (Backenstoe) Butz, became a member of the National and Pennsylvania Federation of Garden Clubs in 1949. Membership in 2011 is still going strong with 67 members from local towns including Macungie and Emmaus. Monthly meetings are held at Faith Presbyterian Church on South 2nd Street in Emmaus.
