OMG those rain barrels are ADORABLE!! I hope to snag one. I also use a diy (albeit less snazzy looking) rain barrel at home, made from this kit: http://www.rainbarrelparts.com/product_rbpEM_RSP_kits_rectangular.php. It works really well.   more ›

Emmaus Community Day Sizzles With Fun

Locals flocked to Emmaus Community Park for food and fun despite steamy weather conditions.

For the first time in many years, "Emmaus Community Day" was revived on Sat., July 23 as hundreds of attendees enjoyed music by live performers, participated in sporting events, dunked a few borough councilmen and ate tasty foods. Later in the day, a group of veteran Emmaus baseball players joined together to recall the good old days on the field during an "Old Timers" baseball game. Emmaus Ambulance Corps members were on site to keep everyone cool and safe as they offered free Powerade, cold towels and free misting fans. An ambulance was also ready in case of any emergencies. Later in the evening, DJ Dutch, (a.k.a. Emmaus Borough Councilman Brent Labenberg), rocked the Arts Pavilion with the latest dance tunes to close the event.

Emmaus Community Day a hit Despite the Heat

The popular dunk tank was the place to be.

There was no question the dunk tank was the best place to be during Emmaus Community Day on Saturday. Emmaus Borough Council members and candidates took turns getting dunked and it left them grinning. “I’ve been getting pretty wet up here,” said Giovanni Landi, a Republican candidate for council. “Having a dunk tank is a good idea in 100-degree weather,” agreed Jeff Shubzda of the Emmaus Parks and Recreation Commission, which sponsored the day’s events in Emmaus Community Park. Brent Labenberg, a 16-year member of Emmaus Borough Council, took a turn in the dunk tank as his two sons lined up to take a shot. “They don’t want to dunk their dad,” Labenberg said. “I’ll make them do chores.” But that didn’t deter Drew, 15, and Darren, 14, who …

Emmaus Community Day will Debut on July 23

Afternoon and evening events will be held in Emmaus Community Park on Saturday.

Something new is coming to the Emmaus Community Park on July 23 -- the first-ever Emmaus Community Day, sponsored by the Emmaus Parks and Recreation Commission. The commission has sponsored periodic summer movie nights in Community Park in the past. But this year, the commission decided to try something a little different, instead organizing an afternoon and evening of special events, entertainment and food, starting at 1 p.m. “We really hope it will grow to be a yearly event,” said Vickie Gruver, chairman of the Parks and Recreation Commission. “We hope every year to expand upon it.” Gruver said the highlight of the day will be the “Old Timer” baseball game for players age 40 or older, starting at 5:30 p.m. It will feature former Emmaus …
