Emmaus Travel and Intramural Baseball holding winter workouts.

The Emmaus Youth Association is holding winter workouts for all boys ages 8 through 12 who live in the Emmaus, Upper Milford, Alburtis and Macungie areas and plan to participate in spring Travel or Intramural baseball. These workouts, which will cover hitting, fielding and throwing, cost $20.00 per two-hour session. Workouts will be held at Elite Sports Academy, 6330 Hedgewood Dr., Suite 310, Allentown, from 5 to 7 p.m. The remaining workout dates are: Jan. 23, Feb. 6 and 20 March 5 and 19 and April 2. The girls went from losing all their games to being undefeated.
Name: Lunachicks Softball Team School: 16- and 17-year-old girls from Emmaus High School, Moravian Academy and home schooled Accomplishment: They are the #1 ranked team in PA & the Mid Atlantic Region, and #4 in the Nation for 16 "B" age group according to the USSSA (United States Specialized Sports Association) rankings. Key to Awesomeness: The Lunachicks Softball Team, which is a member of the Lehigh Valley Girls Softball League and plays through the Emmaus Youth Association, won the 2011 USSSA Eastern World Series 16 "B" this summer in Salisbury, Md. In the 50-plus years Marshall Rau has lived in the area, he has volunteered more than his share of time for the betterment of our town.
Name: Marshall Rau Town in which you live: East Texas for the past seven years, but before that lived in Emmaus for 50 years. Tell us about your involvement in the community. Rau is an active member of the Emmaus Moravian Church; he's been Sacristan for 12 years and a church trustee for 12 years. He also takes care of the church cemetery. The Emmaus Youth Association is running a fundraiser at Rita's Italian Ice from 4 to 8 p.m. today. A portion of the sales between those hours will benefit the kids that participate in EYA activities. Founded in 1957, according to the EYA Web site, the Emmaus Youth Association strives to teach youngsters about teamwork through competitive play in a variety of team sports and other recreational activities.
