Emmaus FD Plans to buy dog for Girl Hurt in Duplex Fire

An 11-year-old girl was injured trying to save her dog in a New Year's Eve blaze that destroyed her home in Emmaus.

Normally, firefighters are finished helping the victims of a fire when the last hose is wound up and the fire truck heads back to the station. Emmaus firefighters are not your normal firefighters. After battling a Dec. 31 blaze that destroyed a duplex on East Main Street in Emmaus that left two families homeless, the members of the Emmaus Fire Department decided they needed to do something further to help the victims of the fire - Katherine and Gerald Maury and Jarred Goeppert and his 11-year-old daughter Jada. In particular, the firefighters have focused their efforts on Jada, who was hospitalized for smoke inhalation, breathing with the help of a ventilator through Wednesday. HC and Sharon, Although I do support the adoption option, I think there should be nothing but praises for the EFD members of taking the inititive for even thinking of the little girl and her recovery. They could of just left things alone and let the families figure it out but they didnt and are giving her the choice of what she wants.   more ›

Blaze Destroys Duplex; Firefighters Plan Relief Effort

Emmaus Fire Department spearheads community effort to help two families left homeless following a Sunday night fire on Main Street in Emmaus.

Emmaus firefighters met Monday night to begin planning ways to help two families displaced by a Sunday night blaze that destroyed a duplex on Main Street in the borough. The families include an older couple and a father and his 11-year-old daughter. The girl was injured trying to save her dog, a Great Dane, who died in the blaze. The firefighters plan to open a bank account for each family for the purpose of collecting monetary donations. Details on those accounts will be available later this week. Fire Dept. Plans to Help Families After Duplex Blaze

Emmaus Fire Department spearheads community effort to help two families left homeless following a Sunday night fire on Main Street in Emmaus.

It was far from just another New Year’s Eve for members of the Emmaus Fire Department last night. That’s because it was far from just another New Year’s Eve for two Emmaus families who lost everything Sunday night when a raging fire that began on the rear porch of 502 E. Main St. destroyed their duplex in the borough. The firefighters met Monday after dinner to begin talking about how they can help the families, who according to scanner reports Sunday night include an older couple, and a man, woman and juvenile. Capt. Matt Hahn of the Emmaus Fire Department contacted Emmaus Patch after the New Year’s Eve meeting to share initial details of the fire department’s planned relief efforts.
