Poll Result: Borough Should buy Artificial Christmas Tree

Respondents to an online Patch survey say the Borough of Emmaus should purchase an artificial Christmas tree for the Triangle.

You can’t please everyone. And, no matter what the Borough of Emmaus decides to do about the borough Christmas tree in the future, it’s pretty clear that all Emmaus residents won’t be pleased – at least according to the results of a pre-Christmas Patch poll on the topic. The poll question was included in a Dec. 20 Patch article that explained six ideas for how the borough Christmas tree could be handled in the future presented at an Emmaus Borough Council meeting by Councilman Mike Waddell. The question asked: “What do you think: Which option is best for the Emmaus Borough Christmas tree?”   Since then, 132 Patch users have participated in the poll, with 38 users, or 28 percent saying that the borough should purchase an artificial tree for…

Take our Poll: Six Options for the Emmaus Christmas Tree

Emmaus Borough Councilman Mike Waddell presents six ideas about how the borough Christmas tree could be handled in the future to council at Monday night’s meeting.

With Christmas a mere six days away, the Emmaus Borough Christmas tree was again a topic of conversation at Monday night's Emmaus Borough Council meeting. Councilman Mike Waddell, who heads the general administration committee, told council that he met with the borough's Shade Tree Commission to brainstorm options for how to handle the borough Christmas tree in the future. They have come up with six ideas so far. Waddell stresses that these are merely things to think about to get the conversation going. Council will dig deeper into the issue in the coming year, he says. Some residents feel that the tree currently installed in Triangle Park is ugly and that the borough needs to come up with a better plan for future trees. Josephine …

Thanks for all of the comments about our efforts to find a long-term solution to the Tree issue. I strongly recommend that residents listen to the report I made Monday night that elaborates a bit more on each of the options. For example, maintaining the status quo will be difficult because there aren’t many great looking 25’-30’ trees close by, the man hour cost is about $6,000 to cut, install …   more ›

Emmaus Will Look Into Growing own Christmas Trees

Mike Waddell asks council to consider planting trees somewhere on borough property.

As the borough of Emmaus looks forward to its annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony in Triangle Park on Saturday night, an Emmaus borough councilman is already looking forward next year’s Christmas tree – and the trees after that. Mike Waddell, who heads council’s general administration committee, made what he termed an “unusual request” at the Nov. 21 borough council meeting. The borough, he said, had been looking for its 2011 Christmas tree for a while, and it had taken until a few days before Thanksgiving to find one. Good news that was a little too close for comfort for Waddell. To make the borough’s annual Christmas tree hunt a little easier down the road, Waddell proposed that the borough explore growing its own Christmas trees. “I…

Borough in Search of Christmas Tree for Triangle Park

Borough Councilman Mike Waddell puts out the call for a Christmas tree donation at Monday night’s Emmaus Borough Council meeting.

Once all of the praise and thank you’s for a successful Halloween Parade and 5K race were finished, Emmaus Borough Council turned its thoughts to another Emmaus tradition – the borough Christmas tree lighting in Triangle Park. Councilman Michael Waddell brought up the topic of the borough’s need of a Christmas tree donation at Monday night’s borough council meeting, describing the borough’s ideal Christmas tree. “It should be 30- to 35-feet tall,” he said, “with no flat spots. We are looking or a tree. If you have one on your property that’s that right size, contact Craig (Neely, the borough manager.)” The tree donor doesn’t have to live in the Borough, Waddell added. Waddell also suggested to Councilman Nathan Brown, who heads the borough…

Tell us Your Favorite Place to go for a Walk

This Emmaus resident has one particular part of town that she never misses during her daily excursions.

Check out "Talk of the Town" each Tuesday to learn what one of your friends and neighbors thinks about a particular aspect of the place we all call home. We'll ask a different resident a different question each week (we may repeat some of the more popular ones) and share his or her answer, along with a photograph, on Emmaus Patch. We'll also invite you to share your thoughts on the question in the comments and to make suggestions of future "Talk of the Town" questions. This week, we're talking with Emmaus resident Denise Fruhwirth. We caught up with her and her pup, Patty, on Chestnut Street, and here's what we asked her: As a frequent walker, what's your favorite place to go? "I love walking through downtown Emmaus. The fountain is my …

There's not a place in Emmaus where I don't enjoy walking. From Rodale's walking trails to the Triangle. Even just strolling through different neighborhoods is relaxing to me.   more ›
