St. Ann Student Flies High
Kaitlyn Carl knows aviation is important to Pennsylvania.
Kaitlyn Carl, a fifth-grader at St. Ann School in Emmaus, was named last week as one of 21 students across the state who have been recognized in the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation's avaition art contest. There were 900 entries. Carl won in the fourth- and fifth-grade category for PennDOT's District 5 which includes Berks, Carbon, Lehigh, Monroe, Northampton and Schuylkill counties. Entrants were challenged to represent the theme, "Aviation’s Value to My Community,” and Carl's entry depicts an airport, two planes and a control tower. The winners' artwork will be on display in the State Capitol Dec. 12-16, and the winners will each receive a 16-by-20-inch copy of their entry and a certificate signed by PennDOT Secretary of Barry …
