AAA Makes Predictions for August Gas Prices

After fuel prices rose sharply in July, AAA releases outlook for August.

AAA released its weekly fuel gauge report last week, showing a sharp increase in gas prices through July and predicting that prices will remain high through Labor Day. According to AAA numbers, national gas prices increased 5.1 percent, or 17 cents a gallon, over the course of July to close out at $3.50 a gallon. That's the first monthly increase since March and the largest increase for July since at least 2000, when AAA began keeping records. If it seems like prices had been low this summer, they were. Geologist to Explain What Made August Earthquake Happen

Retired Kutztown University Professor Bruce Rowell will speak at Emmaus Public Library on Wednesday night.

Geologist and retired Kutztown University Professor Bruce Rowell will deliver a talk titled “What Made Our Earth Shake?” at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at the Emmaus Public Library (EPL). Rowell’s presentation will largely focus on the 5.9 Richter Scale Virginia earthquake that shook the East Coast in August as well as other East Coast earthquakes. He is also likely to include a bit about his recent trip to Yellowstone too, according to EPL flyers about his presentation. Rowell’s talk is intended for adults and mature teens and questions from the audience are encouraged. The Emmaus Public Library asks that those planning to attend the program register at the front desk of the library or by calling 610-965-9284.
