Republican state Rep. Ryan Mackenzie, who won a special election in April, defeated first-time candidate John Reynard, a Democrat, to win a full term in Tuesday's 134th House district race, according to unofficial results. In Lehigh County, Mackenzie received 16,441 votes compared to 10,883 for Reynard. In Berks County, Mackenzie received 2,688 votes to Reynard's 1,601. Vote tallies are unofficial until certified by county election officials. Mackenzie said: "I want to thank the people of the 134th District who have honored me with their support today. The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) has endorsed Democrat John Reynard over GOP state Rep. Ryan Mackenzie in the 134th House race. SEIU is one of the largest unions in Pennsylvania and North America, and it is the largest health care union, including workers in hospitals, nursing homes and home care. It is the second largest public employee union.

The April 24 special election to fill the 134th House district seat came down to just 112 votes in Emmaus and Upper Milford Township. GOP candidate Ryan Mackenzie defeated Democrat Patrick Slattery in the Emmaus area just as he did in the overall results - but the margin of victory was smaller here. Local cable stations and WFMZ are airing $100,000 worth of TV commercials bought by Planned Parenthood Votes to try to defeat Republican Ryan Mackenzie in the hotly contested 134th House race. Planned Parenthood Votes is a Pennsylvania state-registered political committee. The national Planned Parenthood Action Fund administers Planned Parenthood Votes. Mackenzie is calling the ads a "$100,000 lie" being told in an attempt to try to "scare voters and buy the election," according to a media advisory he sent. The TV spots attempt to tie Mackenzie to a controversial proposal to require women seeking an abortion to have an ultrasound.
