Salem United Methodist Church
6440 Powder Valley Rd, Zionsville, PA 18092
Salem Methodist celebrated its 175th anniversary in 2004. Two features make this small church visually unusual, one isMore an old horse shed just above the church. It's easy to imagine a time when church-goers parked their buggies beneath that shed and led their horses into the long-gone corral. Another visual anomaly is a glass-walled meeting room between the church building and the cemetery. Originally conceived as a picnic pavilion, the Gerald Jacoby Pavilion was built in 2009. Solar heat keeps the otherwise unheated structure warm enough to use 10 months out of the year. In summer, of course, it sometimes is too warm to use, even though some of  its windows do open.

One of the most beautiful churches in Upper Milford Township, with a steeple that can be seen for miles around,More Zion's Evangelical Lutheran Church was built in 1876. However, the congregation celebrated its 250th anniversary in 2008. The church, not the building, is one of the oldest  in Lehigh County. This is the third edifice to stand on the site.

It all began in 1758, with a log church built on the same high ground along the Kings Highway, the main road coming north from Philadelphia. Services were in German until 1895, when the first English service was conducted. The last German service in the church was in 1945.
