Seven Generations Charter School

Flag as Inappropriate

In addition to reading, writing and arithmetic, Seven Generations teaches respect for the environment and all living things. Its curriculum promotes hands-on learning in nature and the community as well as in the classroom. This school uses the environment as a tool to help teach all subjects and its students the benefits of spending time outdoors. The school's name comes from an Iroquois tradition that before any decision is made, its impact on the next seven generations must be considered. Charter schools are public schools, funded by tax dollars, but mandated to be innovative. This new school is in what originally was a 19th-century silk mill. It currently teaches children in grades kindergarten through fifth, but plans to add another grade level every year until it includes at least eighth grade. Seven Generations is in the East Penn School District. East Penn parents who want to enroll their children here must attend an open house in January. If more children apply than the number of openings available, students are selected by lottery.
