Books, audiobooks, music and movies are available to borrow at the Emmaus Public Library, founded in 1966. Although it stands right along Main Street, behind the gateway to the heart of Emmaus, this treasure house of knowledge is too easily overlooked by thousands of people who drive by every day. The one-level building is tucked away behind the trees in its large front yard. Its parking-lot entrance is off Ridge Street, not Main. In addition to Emmaus residents, the library serves those who live in nearby Upper Milford Township and Macungie. Overcrowded in all areas, the library is raising money to expand; groundbreaking is tentatively scheduled for June 2011.

The Emmaus Library is a great place. They host story times and events for people of all ages. We often go to story time on Wednesday and the staff is great. After a little while, my toddler gets to be a little restless so he is able to "browse" the library and we have never been told to keep it down. The enthusiasm during the stories is appreciated, as is our trip away from the house. We always look forward to our Library visits and tremedously appreciate the staff and all the hard work they put forth. It is a great, warm, welcoming environment promoting such an important activity for my kids and myself. We really look forward to the expansion.
