Do You Love Lavender?

A free lavender event at the Rodale General Store on Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. just might make a lavender-lover out of you.

Since ancient times, lavender has been known for its therapeutic properties. Today, this beloved Old World herb from the mint family has found its way into our gardens, around our homes, into crafts and cosmetics and chefs around the world are re-discovering how to cook with it.

On Saturday, Rodale’s General Store will host a free lavender event on Saturday for those who love lavender or hope to fall in love with this unique herb.

Florence Rodale, the owner of The Lavender Farmette, will be on hand from 1- 4 p.m. on Oct. 12 to answer lavender-related questions. Between 2 and 3 p.m., Florence will give a presentation including instructions on how to craft infused lavender oil from scratch.

She also will demonstrate how to make a luscious lavender lip balm, showing how easy, economical and fun making your own organic lavender lip balm can be.

Plus, a tasting of lavender cookies will be offered along with a free take-away lavender cookies recipe, courtesy of the The Lavender Farmette. Delicious organic lavender cookies will also be available for sale.

The Lavender Farmette is a micro-farm located in the Lehigh Valley. Florence uses a large portion of her artisan lavender crop as a component to her personal artwork. The remainder is crafted into a selection of products some of which are sold at Rodale’s General Store.

Rodale’s General Store is located at 1002 Pennsylvania Ave., Emmaus. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The store's telephone number is 610-928-1050.
