Young Scientists Need to see LIN Cream Demo

Air Products volunteers will make and give out LIN cream on Saturday at Farewell to Summer event.

If you’ve lived in the area for a while and have gone to a Lehigh Valley public school sometime in the past 30 years, you might already know about LIN Cream.

That’s how long Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. has been doing school and group presentations about its fabulous liquid nitrogen "ice" cream.

Saturday at Emmaus’ first-ever festival, Air Products will create some LIN Cream scientific magic before the showing of "Up" at 7 p.m. on the lawn of the Emmaus Public Library. If you’ve seen the demo when you were in school, make sure you bring your children so they can enjoy the fun.

After mixing together sugar, heavy cream, half and half, egg beaters egg substitute and vanilla, all you need to do is shoot in some liquid nitrogen, stir, and, voila – LIN Cream. You don’t have to worry about the kids trying this at home because where would they buy liquid nitrogen that takes the mixture to minus 300 degrees?

Laurie Gostley-Hacket, Air Products spokesperson, says, "LIN Cream can be mixed with strawberries, chocolate or just about any flavor. Oreo cookies broken into bits have been used. We recently did a demo at Just Born Candy in Bethlehem and mixed in some of their famous marshmallow peeps."

According to Gostley-Hackett, the fun and magic of science through liquid nitrogen is a way for the Trexlertown company to connect with the community. A corps of several hundred trained LIN Cream ambassadors, employees of Air Products, goes out to schools and community groups every year. They’re not just engineers or scientists, they’re people that work in human resources, accounting or maintenance, to name a few departments the volunteers come from.

If you have a budding scientist in your household, he or she will certainly want to see this amazing demonstration at the "Farewell To Summer" festival.
