Local Brownies Wrap up Some Holiday Spirit

Brownie Troop #689 took part in a Holiday Hope Chest Extravaganza at St. John's UCC on Saturday.

There are several life lessons and little bit of holiday magic wrapped up into a recent project by Brownie Troop #689, which operates out of Emmaus.

The girls, led by Sara Roth and Laura Vargo, participated in a Holiday Hope Chest Extravaganza at St. John's UCC, Emmaus, on Saturday. As part of the project, Troop #689, along with several troops in the area, distributed donation boxes to different locations and collected items for the less fortunate, according to Laura Vargo, assistant leader for Brownie Troop #689.

Troop #689 placed its donation box at Active Learning Center for several weeks, Vargo says. The girls in the troop also collected shoe boxes and donations they purchased themselves, or items purchased by friends and family. The girls then filled the shoe boxes with the donations and gift-wrapped them. Ultimately, the "gift"  will be given to needy children in Allentown, Vargo explains.

Brownie troop #689 meets on Mondays at Holy Spirit Church in Emmaus.
