Dear Arod

Dear Arod,

Remember when you were that little boy who dreamed the dream so many little boys do?  The dream to play baseball in front of millions?  The dream so many people probably told you to throw away because you were not quite good enough or the odds were against you?

Well guess what A-Rod, you achieved your dream, you lived your dream, and then you destroyed your dream.  I also question, did you even earn your dream?

You got greedy and lost your head and you gave in to one of the dumbest things a professional athlete can give into:  PEDs.  You put the game of baseball to shame and you ruined every positive thing you’ve every contributed to the game.  I look back at every home run you have ever hit, at every play you have ever made, and at every award you have ever won and I wonder, “was this really you or was that just the PEDs playing?”

You were given every opportunity in the world, but that just wasn’t enough for you was it?  You couldn’t just be a baseball player on the New York Yankees living every kid’s dream could you?  No, that was too easy for you.  You just had to be the best didn’t you?

The first time you got caught you said this, “When I arrived in Texas in 2001, I felt an enormous amount of pressure. I felt like I had all the weight of the world on top of me and I needed to perform, and perform at a high level every day…I was young. I was stupid. I was naive. And I wanted to prove to everyone that I was worth being one of the greatest players of all time.”

Then you even went on to say that you wanted to change your ways:  "I'm finally beginning to grow up. I'm pretty tired of being stupid and selfish, you know, about myself. The truth needed to come out a long time ago. I'm glad it's coming out today."

So, what does that make you now?  Are you still young?  Are you still stupid?  Are you still naïve? What’s your excuse this time A-Rod?  You are a 38 year old professional baseball player and father and all you have proven to me is that you’re worthy of being known as one of the biggest embarrassments to baseball of all time.  You have not grown up at all.  You’re still that selfish and dishonest “kid” you were back with the Rangers.

Don’t agree?  Well do you remember that time last October when your team was losing game 1 of the ALCS?  You probably don’t because you were too busy trying to get the numbers of two women sitting in the stands.  Your teammates must be so proud.

Do you remember the baseball players you looked up to when you were little?  The ones that you dreamed of being or playing with?  Well guess what, no one dreams to be you anymore.  No one wants to be the useless player that got caught for using PEDs twice, the useless player that is costing his team millions of dollars because of his mistakes, or the useless player that Yankees fans everywhere do not even want to come back.

You had every opportunity in the world to excel, to be the player you dreamed of being, and to be a role model to every little boy with the dream of playing in the majors.  You thought PEDs would make you the best, but they’ve only made you one of the biggest jokes in baseball.  So congratulations, I hope it was worth it for you.

Sincerely,

A disappointed Yankees fan
