Summer Dates: Go for a Hole in One

Some summer dates are truly timeless, like a mini-golf outing.

I cannot tell a lie, this week’s summer date was inspired by a date I had today with the other men in my life – my 8-year-old son and his equally dapper 5-year-old brother.

The boys and I spent a glorious afternoon mini golfing, complete with the requisite post golf game ice cream cone.

Today’s outing got me to thinking about my very first date in life, which just happened to be on a mini golf course in my hometown in New Jersey and likely ended with that requisite ice cream cone.

This little bit of nostalgia left me contemplating how nice it would be if my hubby and I could manage to sneak away to the mini golf course ourselves.

What's your idea of the perfect summer date?

For those of us in the “married-with-children” bracket, I think a mini golf outing is a perfect date option. It gets us outside and moving around, without being too physically challenging.

Plus, a round of mini golf is relatively inexpensive as far as dates go and it can be squeezed in in less than two hours, minimizing those potentially piggy-bank-breaking babysitting costs.

When you think about it, what could be better than heading out with your main squeeze and giving yourselves permission to act like kids for a bit. Who knows? You might even get so rambunctious that you toss your ball into the water trap on purpose – just so you can use that cool basket on the long pole to fish it out.
