Heat Wave Strikes Emmaus Area This Week

The heat index on Thursday and Friday could top 100 degrees.

Written by Tom De Martini

A six-to-seven day heat wave is in on tap this week, with no relief at all seen until the weekend, according to the National Weather Service. Daytime highs will reach the mid-90s through Friday.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Monday, which will probably be extended throughout the week.

The National Weather Service says the worst of the heat wave will occur Thursday and Friday, when heat indexes could reach 100 to 105 degrees.

It will feel like its 100 degrees outside when temperatures in the low to mid-90s are combined with a dewpoint of around 70.

The heat advisory means temperatures and humidity are high enough that they could cause heat-related sickness.

Tips to stay safe are:

  • Drink plenty of fluids
  • Stay out of the sun and in air conditioning if possible
  • Check on neighbors and family
