Fresh Air Fund Welcomes NYC Kids to Lehigh Valley
Host families from across the Lehigh Valley were waiting for more than two dozen New York City children as they got off the bus at Cedar Crest Bible Fellowship Church in Salisbury.
The Fresh Air Fund Lehigh Valley committee welcomed more than two dozen children from New York City as they got off a bus July 10 at Cedar Crest Bible Fellowship Church in Salisbury Township.
Volunteer families host the children, ages six to 18, for up to two weeks during the summer so they can leave behind the city streets to run barefoot in the grass or see the stars at night. Some youngsters are leaving home for the first time, while others are returning to visit the same host families for consecutive summers.
Local host families are from Orefield, Nazareth, Gouldsboro, Zionsville, Allentown, East Stroudsburg, Bethlehem, Emmaus, Coopersburg, Pen Argyl, New Tripoli, Kempton, Macungie and Slatedale.

The Fresh Air Fund is an independent, not-for-profit agency that has provided free summer vacations to more than 1.7 million New York City children from low-income communities since 1877. Each summer, over 4,000 children visit volunteer host families in rural, suburban and small town communities across 13 states from Virginia to Maine and Canada
