Emmaus Hopes to Reopen Pool Labor Day Weekend

Emmaus expects to be able to reopen the Community Pool in time for Labor Day weekend, so long as a part needed to fix the broken pump arrives in the next three to five days.

The pool has been closed since Wednesday due to problems with the main pump. Borough Public Works staff examined the pump and discovered that the problem was with the impeller, said Borough Manager Shane Pepe.

The impeller manufacturer from a Southern state agreed to expedite shipping the part but it's expected to take three to five days, Pepe said.  

"The whole issue now is the delivery of that part," he said. "Best case scenario we might see the part by Monday."

He's hoping the pump will be fixed by Wednesday. "We have some very skilled guys who can do that kind of work," Pepe said. 

Once the pump is repaired, the borough needs a day or two to get the chemicals in the water regulated and the filtration system working, he said.

Initially, the borough staff thought the pump would have to be removed from the building, which would mean knocking a hole in the wall, Pepe said. The borough received an estimate from a contractor that would have cost the borough $4,500 to tear out the pump and repair it. 

Instead, "it's going to cost us about $1,500 because our Public Works employees found the problem," he said.
