Darth Maul, a Cow Hat and a Bug in the Mouth

Carnival Night at Emmaus Community Park, sponsored by the Emmaus Special Entertainment Commission, had a little bit of everything.

There's no way I can give an unbiased report on Family Fun Night at Emmaus Community Park on Friday night because I was there and it was awesome.

My family and I attended the Carnival-themed program, planned by the Emmaus Special Entertainment Commission, and I am pretty sure we covered every inch of it -- from the decorate-your-own cupcake booth run by Sugar So Sweet (we had two) to the the bean bag tosses and the funhouse mirror.

There was face painting, which caused my younger son to transform into none other than Darth Maul while my back was turned, and martial arts demonstrations on the stage of the Arts Pavilion by event co-sponsor Leading Edge Martial Arts.

FreySmiles Orthodontics, another of the evening's sponsors brought the tooth fair along for photo opps.

The grand finale of Carnival Night was a performance by John Cassidy, world record holder for balloon sculpting, who had a packed house in the Arts Pavilion enthralled with his blend of balloon sculpting, magic and comedy.

He brought kid after kid from the crowd onto the stage to participate in his act.

Much to my amazement, his last trick included putting my older guy into a black steamer trunk, shoving him across the stage and making him disappear.

His bravery was rewarded with a balloon animal hat in the shape of a cow. And I guffawed so wholeheartedly I am pretty sure a bug flew into my mouth.

Don't miss the Special Entertainment Commission's next Family Fun Night on August 23 from 6 to 9 p.m in Community Park. It's a makeup performance by Dave Frey, whose show was rained out in June.

I will be there with Darth Maul and the kid in the cow hat.
