EHS Field Hockey Squad Heads to State Championship

The Green Hornets field hockey team will face Lower Dauphin in the state finals at Whitehall High School at 2 p.m. Saturday.

The Emmaus High School field hockey team will finish its undefeated 2013 season on Saturday afternoon, facing Lower Dauphin in a championship matchup scheduled for 2 p.m. at Whitehall High School.

The Green Hornets (26-0) team won its berth in the PIAA Class 3A field hockey finals earlier this week, according to Nicole Bloise, community liaison for East Penn School District, on Tuesday defeating West Chester Henderson 2-1 at Exeter High School. The game-winning goal was scored by EHS senior Ashley Moxey.

East Penn Superintendent of Schools Thomas L. Seidenberger had this to say about the undefeated team, its coach and Saturday's game:

“Congratulations to Coach Sue Butz-Stavin, her staff and players for their outstanding season. Their accomplishments speak well to their dedication and tomorrow is their reward for all their hard work. I wish the team success. It would be a great honor to watch the metals being placed around the staff and players. It should be a great game.”

According to the EHS field hockey team's website, this is the 54th year the sport has been played at Emmaus High. Butz-Stavin is coaching for her 38th season. In addition to Butz-Stavin, the coaching staff includes, Andy Moxey, (JV coach) and Stu Speicher (goalie coach).

Emmaus Patch Facebook friend Thaddeus Dobracki wished the team well with a nod to EHS field hockey's history:

"Can't really say that I follow field hockey very much any more, but I saw EHS field hockey win its first championship 22 years ago to the day on 11/17/1991 in Collegeville or somewhere down that way. Good luck this year!"
