Mixies Strives to Boost Business, Support Community

Mixies, the self-service yogurt shop that opened on the Emmaus Triangle in July, offers a very flexible fundraising program for East Penn school and community groups.

Mixies, the self-service yogurt shop that opened on the Emmaus Triangle in July, has already captured the hearts of the little people in Emmaus and beyond.

After all, the appeal of being able to design one's own gummy worm-covered frozen delight is inexplicable.

Now, Mixies is working to captivate school groups and non-profits in the East Penn community as well, through a generous fundraising program that offers as much room for customization as the shop's self-serve candy bar.

Seven Generations Charter School in Emmaus is one of the first school groups to take advantage of the program, according to Mixies owner Vicki Piotrowski.

And, Piotrowski says she welcomes the opportunity to help more community groups to raise money while at the same time hopefully bringing more foot traffic into the Mixies store.

The way the Seven Gen fundraiser is set up, Piotrowski explains, any time anyone makes a purchase using the school's Mixies fundraising ticket, 20 percent of the sale is given back to the school.

Seven Gen supporters do not have to make a purchase on a set day and time. They can eat at Mixies any time they like and have a percentage of the sale go back to the school. Piotrowski says groups can run fundraisers for a day, a week, a month or even an entire year.

She's open to suggestions and amendable to crafting a unique fundraising program to meet each group's particular needs.

While business was good in the summer, Piotrowski admits that the winter months, when demand for frozen treats is lower, are going to be tough. She hopes that ideas like the community fundraiser help to alleviate some of the winter slowdown.
