St. Ann School Hopes to Raise $35K Through Walkathon

Ninth annual St. Ann School Walkathon Kicks off Friday at 10:15 a.m.

St. Ann School hopes to "Soar to New Heights" on Friday with its 9th annual walkathon, its biggest yearly fundraiser. The school has set a fundraising goal of $35,000 for the 2013 walkathon and is nearly there, having already raised $30,000, according to a prepared statement by the school.

The theme of this year's walkathon, “Soar to New Heights," was submitted by 4th graders Tierna Moore and Allison Carr. The event T-shirts display a design created by 8th-grader Danalyn Roncolato.

The walkathon relies on the generosity of local businesses and the family and friends of St. Ann students who donate to the fundraiser. About 70 percent of the money raised for this event comes from students' efforts, the release says. Students can win prizes based on how much money they raise.

The top three student fundraisers will receive:

  • 1st prize: A limousine ride from school.
  • 2nd prize: An e-reader.
  • 3rd prize: Carmike movie tickets, Red Robin and Fuzziwigs Candy Shop gift cards.

The top two classes in terms of fundraising totals will receive a pizza party.

Walkathon day begins with a student body Mass, followed by a school photo and the walk to the Rodale track. The Allentown Central Catholic Viking and Vikette mascots will be leading the walk.

Then, joined by their teachers and numerous parents, students walk a designated distance in recognition of donations received. After returning to school, a family picnic, featuring Potts Hot Dogs and a variety of traditional picnic foods will be held.

Participants will be treated to a special dessert after lunch, thanks to a donation of Italian ice by Rita’s.
