With a bit of snow in the forecast Thursday night, this seems to be as good as a time as any to review East Penn School District’s arrival guidelines for elementary school students in the event of a delayed opening on Friday.
East Penn parents already have one delayed opening under their belts this week – and a two-hour one no less – and reports from elementary teachers and staff are that there was a bit of confusion about who needed to be where and when. This confusion was especially prevalent among kindergarten parents, whose kids only attend school for half the day.
According to the East Penn School District web site, here’s what you need know about one- and two-hour delayed school starts:
The morning session begins one hour late at 9:55 a.m. AM Kindergarten students and 1st through 5th grade students report to bus stops or school building one hour late. The PM Kindergarten session will follow the regular schedule.
AM Kindergarten students and 1st through 5th grade students ride the regular bus with pickup delayed two hours and report to school for a 10:55 a.m. start. Dismissal for AM Kindergarten students will be at 12:35 p.m. – one hour later than usual. PM Kindergarten students will ride the regular bus with pickup delayed one hour and report to school at 1:25 p.m. – one hour later than usual. Dismissal for 1st through 5th graders and for PM Kindergarten students will remain at the regular time – 3:30 p.m.
The only day that parents deviate from this schedule is on Wednesdays, due to the weekly 1:30 p.m. dismissal time on Wednesdays in East Penn for elementary school students. In the event of a two-hour delayed open on a Wedneday due to bad weather, there's no AM kindergarten and PM students report to school as normal.
