Should Guns Be Allowed on College Campuses?

A measure being considered would allow firearms on Pennsylvania's 14 state-run universities.

Firearms may soon be permitted in public areas on Pennsylvania’s state-run universities.

A measure being considered by the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education Board of Governors would allow firearms in open areas of the 14 state-run universities, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

Pennsylvania’s state-run universities are Bloomsburg, California, Cheyney, Clarion, East Stroudsburg, Edinboro, Indiana, Kutztown, Lock Haven, Mansfield, Millersville, Shippensburg, Slippery Rock and West Chester.

There will be a public webcast at 10 a.m. Thursday in which officials from the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education will take public comment on the proposal.

The Inquirer said the proposal likely would be voted on Jan. 23.
