Seniors Enjoy an Early Thanksgiving at EHS
Emmaus High School has been serving up turkey dinners for East Penn seniors for nearly four decades.
National Honor Society students partnered with EHS administrative assistants to serve up turkey and all the trimmings to about 500 senior citizens at the high school on Thurs., Nov. 17.
The pre-Thanksgiving celebration is held at the high school each year for East Penn seniors with "Golden Age" cards. Two additional East Penn schools, and , offered a similar meal to Golden Age cardholders last Thursday, bringing the total number of seniors served to more than 1,100.
Seniors at the high school were entertained by members of the Jazz Ensemble while they dined.

Golden Age cards are offered by the East Penn School District free-of-charge to East Penn residents age 65 and older. The cards entitle the seniors to free admission to a variety of school district happenings, including all home sporting events, concerts, and plays. Seniors with the card also can use the track at the high school and enroll in community education classes at no cost.
Cecilia Birdsell, East Penn School Board secretary and executive assistant to East Penn School District's superintendent, Dr. Thomas Seidenberger, has worked for East Penn School District for 38 years. "This (the Thanksgiving dinner) has been going on for as long as I've been here," she says.

The luncheon is offered each year to Golden Age cardholders and crossing guards throughout the district.
