Mold in School Closes Seven Gen

Seven Generations Charter School is closed for Dec. 7 and 8, pending results of further mold testing, principal says.

The principal of the says the school is closed for at least today and tomorrow as she awaits expert answers about mold found in the building.

Seven Gen CEO and Academic Director Susan Pfeil says that the mold could be seen in the building and the school had it tested, but those tests didn’t allow her to be sure that the building is a healthy environment.

“Here’s the situation,” Pfeil says. “We felt that we didn’t have enough information about the mold situation to risk any health concerns for our students and staff and very reluctantly and with great concern for our students, we decided it would be the best thing to close the school today and tomorrow.”

Pfeil says she is expecting a number of specialists at the school today to investigate things further and decisions will be made based on what they find.

“That’s why we had to close for two days,” says Pfeil, who has been with Seven Gen for six months. “For some of the tests, you have to close up some parts of the building, and we are not taking any chances.

“We certainly never expected to have this challenge at this time, but the thing that’s amazing to me is that I’ve never seen a school community like this and I have been in education my whole life. The amount of support that has been sent already is just amazing.

“We’re looking at this as just another learning experience for us and we want to get the kids back as soon as possible,” she says.
