Emmaus High School’s Drama Department will present Legally Blonde the Musical from Wednesday through Saturday,.

Since January, students have been staying after school for hours to rehearse for the production. Now that opening night is just around the corner, rehearsals have been kicked into full gear. Cast and crew members were at school after 10 p.m. on Friday and will stay late again on Monday and Tuesday to perfect the final details.

Although the hours are definitely grueling, as a member of the cast, I can honestly say that working in this show doesn’t feel like a chore at all. The plot is hilarious and the music is lighthearted and fun, which makes it a blast for actors and audiences alike.

For me, Legally Blonde is unique from the other shows EHS has put on in the past couple of years. It’s much more modern, and since it’s adapted from a popular movie, it’s much more audience friendly and well-known than our past shows. Even people who aren’t regular theater-goers will find something to enjoy. This may be the year that my 13-year-old brother doesn’t fall asleep during the show -- and that’s saying something!

Despite all the fun and hilarity of Legally Blonde, there’s more to the show than the punchlines. Granted, the idea of a sorority girl getting into Harvard Law to win back her ex-boyfriend is completely far-fetched, but the moral of the story is something audience members of all ages can relate to.

Says senior Logan Beck, playing the lead role of Elle Woods, “It has a great message. Throughout life people are always going to stereotype others or tell them they can’t do something. I believe that we all have a little Elle in us, and by that I mean the drive and passion to do whatever we set our mind to, no matter how out of reach it may seem.”

Legally Blonde the Musical will be presented from April 10-13 at 7 p.m. and April 13 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 for students and senior citizens and $12 for adults. You can buy tickets in the EHS main office or at the door.
