Eyer Shines in Mathcounts Competition

Eyer 8th-grader takes individual third, team places second.

Katie Xue, an 8th grader at , placed third in Saturday’s Mathcounts competition at Trexler Middle School.

As a top-ranking female competitor she will receive tuition to Cedar Crest College for advanced math courses.

As the student who ranked third overall, she will move on to state-level competition which will be held on March 23-24 at the Sheraton Harrisburg Hershey Hotel.

The Eyer Middle School team, coached by Julie Hummell, was the second-highest ranking team.

The top team, Springhouse Middle School and the four top individual students advance to the state competition in March.

Organized by the Lehigh Valley Chapter of the Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers for students in Lehigh, Northampton, Carbon, Luzerne and Monroe counties, is one of 23 Pennsylvania competitions.

A National Mathcounts Competition will take place May 5-8 this year in Washington, D.C. with Raytheon Corporation as the title sponsor.
