Sponsored by National Council of Jewish Women/Los Angeles (NCJW/LA) and the City of West Hollywood Women's Advisory Board, this free educational event for the community will feature a panel discussion moderated by Julie Gruenbaum Fax, senior writer for the Jewish Journal. The scheduled speakers include:

  • Rabbi Denise L. Eger, founding rabbi of Congregation Kol Ami
  • Shari Eshet, director of the National Council of Jewish Women's Israel Office
  • Sharon Shenhav, J.D., director of the International Jewish Women's Rights Project

According to Eshet, "Women's rights are human rights. In order for Israel to stay a true, strong democratic Jewish state, it must remember its Jewish and democratic values of righteousness, equality, and justice."

Through its coalition work in Israel, NCJW is actively involved in social action and advocacy issues in the areas of poverty and food insecurity; tolerance, co-existence, and promotion of equal citizenship for Israeli minorities; and children's and women's empowerment, including the rights of agunot (women who are refused a get, or Jewish divorce, by their husbands), human trafficking, and the equal participation and representation of Israeli women in all national conflict resolution processes.

The program begins promptly at noon. Light refreshments will be served.
