Emmaus High Senior to Perform in Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade

Ferguson Watkins, a senior at Emmaus High School, will be performing in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade as part of the 2013 Macy's Great American Marching Band.

An Emmaus High School senior has been chosen to march in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade as part of the 2013 Macy’s Great American Marching Band, according to a press release from the marching band.

Ferguson Watkins will be playing snare in the drum line during the parade. He, along with the other approximately 200 band members, were selected by audition based on their musical ability and past achievements, the release says. More than 14,000 students from across the country were eligible to try out and Watkins is one a handful of Pennsylvania students chosen.

The band is celebrating the 87th anniversary of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and will take an honor position in the parade on Nov. 28, 2013.

Setting out from Central Park, the band will be cheered by 3.5 million live spectators, before arriving at Macy’s flagship store for its national performance for more than 50 million TV viewers watching the broadcast live on NBC, according to the release.

The student musicians, under the direction of Richard Good and Douglas Rosener, Auburn University, and Barry Houser, University of Illinois, will be complemented by approximately 40 flags and dancers.
