Andrew Licini is one of 24 Pennsylvania students to receive an Achievement Award in Writing from the National Council of Teachers of English.

Andrew Licini, a senior at , has been recognized by the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) for excellence in writing by high school juniors.

Licini is one of 24 students in Pennsylvania to receive the 2011 award, and he is one of 520 recognized in the competition. A total of 1,659 juniors from the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Canada, the Virgin Islands, and American schools abroad were nominated by their high schools to compete for the award.

According to the NCTE Web site, winners are judged in two formats: a sample of their best writing that has been drafted and revised over time and an impromptu essay on a topic set by the NCTE awards committee. “While the first sample is written under conditions chosen by candidates and their teachers, the impromptu essay is written during a supervised, 75-minute period,” the Web site explains.
